Feeling doms today after my last bench session which was very strict and following the Christmas break so thought I would try a speed session instead of the planned 3 sets of 5
Press ups
50x3
52.5x3
55x3...Thinking about now what a piece of piss this is and pressing as soon as the bar is loaded
30 secs?
57.5x3
60x3..Still fast with 30secs rest but considering longer rest to maintain speed
62.5x3
65x3...Getting pumped up now...around 1 min between sets.Still fast
67.5x3
70x3
72.5.x3..Had to work to finish fast
I enjoyed this workout and intend to include speed work into my 2008 programme..either following my 3x5 day or instead of if not fully recovered from Mondays heavy(for me)day
Squat therapy...comming along ok..no rush
Face pulls 3x15 ...no I didnt stick my tongue out and twist my nose Grin

Routine workout with improvement... so a bit stronger today than I was a week agoHappy

Funny old game this powerlifting....didnt really feel up to it due to a carry over from some other training I do that I dont log here..now that my back is getting better I have begun to increase this.
Stuff like jump squats,inclines,lunges,etc with light weights...Anyway...
Bench Press

Press ups
50x10
70x2.....felt heavy about now and not feeling confident about session
80x1
85x1..better now
90x1
85x3x3x3x3x2..no spotter for last rep
So finished up with a decent work out and think I might have finished the five sets if I
had not done the two singles.It looks like I may be able to add a bit in February.
Put off Deadlift rehab till tomorrow
PS Tried a slightly narrower grip on bar.Too early to say if its a benefit but I will play around
with it for a few sessions to find what is best for me.

Thanks Iain...To be honest my bench has not progressed since my PB of 95kgs on the last day of October.
The reason was that I got carried away and was doing too much volume for someone like me.
I have cut it back and going for quality.I am now doing a better rep/set workout than I did a couple of months ago and feel like I am moving forward (steady)again.

An ok session but probably again feeling some carry over from athletics practice the week end I am condidering changing the heavy day to Thursday and light/fast work to Monday.

Deadlift..rehab ...on 100x7 for 5 sets now and back still feels ok.Will not be attempting anything competitive this year(as I wont be competitive) so happy to be making a decent recovery and trot along as I am on this one.Fact of the matter is if I balls it up again I will probably not compete again in this lift or the squat...Not earth shattering... but I had set myself a target of 92.5 bench by the end of this month so pleased to be on course for rebuilding on this lift...so 95.0 by end of Feb?..short month though isnt itWink

Hi Marc...I have pretty much made my mind up to go for the divisional single lifts in Cornwall in May
Not a lot of difference in the milage but I thought I would take my wife and make a weekend of it as we quite like it down there.Thank you for thinking of it though....All things going well...and I dont cock up again I hope to meet up with you at Bradford...along with some others on this site

50x3..worked up in one and a quarter increments to finish with 2 sets of three x70kg
11 sets in all..easy enough but worked on making them as fast as I could..looking for
looking for the bar to float at the top.
3xFace pulls
Squat work rehab...not going that well, but no rush, wont be competing this year.I always thought it was the deadlift that buggered my back up ...but I am now wondering if it was the squat.
So nice and easy ...I always feel a lot better when I have done them.
All in all just a routine workout.

Good stuff. Nice speed work. I totally rate speed work, but not everyone does. All I can say is it's worked for me. Did you ever get these bands, Bill? They'll help big time and are a great way to finish off a speed session.

AAhh bands ...funny you should ask! Yes I have them and tried them ...but didnt get on with it too well.
At the time I was a bit pissed off with myself for falling away on my bench...overtraining ...too much single stuff and all that....Now that I have some structure to what I am doing thanks to you and others here, I will be giving it a go again
They havnt been wasted though as I can do some great face pulls etc with them....plus a few other resistance exercises...Sooo watch this space.
Messing about the other day I rigged them for deadlift...step on the band....Not ready for it yet but maybe one day.
