My local GP decided to round up all those in his area who qualify for a bus pass, then line us up, and as we filed past he jabbed us with a flue shot. I am telling you this to explain why I am a day late with my log and why I felt like s**te today.
15 X PRESS UPS....followed by CLOSE GRIP BENCH PRESS Oddly this is the first time I have ever done this exercise and had to experiment with the balance and weight required. Also my grip was about 6 inches wide My tris got a good work out but is this the best spread to assist my bench ? .. as that is what this session is all about...any advice welcome -and needed
It went like this 50 X 8
60 X 8 X 8
70 X 5 X 4
65 X 6 X 6
SQUAT Begin remedial work following back injury VERY nervous and just did
50 x 8 for three sets ..no problems will increase slowly along with deadlift on similar lines ...I will not include these lifts in my log untill I am doing 100 kg
20 mins cardio to finish

What do you guys do in regard to hand positions on close grip presses?
Following Marcs kind remarks I am feeling a bit of a t**t for balancing the bar with that narrow a grip!
How much closer do you go in from your normal bench handhold?

There can be a lot of different definitions but most people say close grips are when your hands are just outside the ends of the smooth part... not sure how long the smooth is? Maybe 12 inch or so?

HEAVY DAY...Did not feel that motivated at the start...moving and loading the bar felt heavy, but grew into it and in the end a pleasing work out
15X press ups
50x10
70x2... about 5 sec pause then exploding out
80x1...... ditto
90x1x1x1.... comp type pauses
85x3x3x3
75x7x7x6...no spotter so backed off on last rep
Began deadlift after injury.. remedial 50x8x8x8 VERY VERY careful as this is the bugger that did the damage before. Will switch heavy day to Monday to benefit from an extra day rest prior to the extra loads

Good going, but I'd forget the 5 second pauses. You don't need them to compete and they could cause injury. 1001, 1002 is quite enough!

Hi Marc I think I know where your going on this. Due to the back injury which I am now hopefully getting over I have not been doing much. Before that happened I was alternating with upright rows and Good Mornings
Maybe I should be trying something along with the pissy squats I am doing. At the moment I reckon GMs will have to wait ..any suggestions...bearing in mind it will have to be with weights not machines or cables
When ever you have the time I would be interested to hear what you suggest

No silver mate, i meant pulldowns, cable or macine rows, rear delt work just to balance out the bench work mate. simply put work the front and back off the body.

HEAVY BENCH DAY
Stepped up a tad today and moved out of the comfort zone a little
15X Press ups
50x10
70x2
80x1
92.5 x1 pause
95x1 2 white lights maybe? (Equal PB but this one stricter than before)
92.5 x1 pause
85x3x2x2
77.5 x5x4x4x4x4
Rear delts 3 sets of 15
Squat therapy added 10kg...20 mins cardio
Another pleasing session.Would have been perfect had I been able to get three reps on the last two sets with 85kgs
