Cheers it felt abit heavy today. I dont realy suppose I can call it the 531, I just use the same principles and created a split that works best for me. I did a full cycle were I just hit the prescribed reps even if they were easy but threw in multiple sets depending on how I was feeling on the day. This next cycle I hit the prescribed reps on the 5s week and Im pushing the 3's and singles then next cycle Ill be going max effort on all weeks. Still have the big 4 lifts in there using the 90% training max and Ive added close grip speed presses in aswell as paused squats just as I felt they would help improve my weak areas. The assistance stuff is just aimed around bringing up my weak areas again like my rear delts.

I just feel its better for me sometimes to hit the required reps then add in a couple of extra sets instead of going for one max effort set, sometimes my body just isnt up to that. Do you read Jim Wendlers log? he seems to be doing higher volume work recently, hitting 15 triples and things like that. Id imagine hes just using a conservative training max and experimenting.

Ive no plans to compete this year mate

I used to do something similar to what you are doing. I read his log every now and again and have noticed the higher volume stuff. He's got a new book coming out this year I believe so it's probably working on templates for that.
