Absolutely need to pace this stuff. If you were asked to run 2 miles you wouldn't sprint the first 30 seconds... There are a lot of crossfitters who don't understand that once you've hit the wall you are not coming back.

Also, it's more challenging to work out the exact pace you can go at and trust yourself to keep pushing. Any moron can blow in the first minute then claim how much of a badass they are. Actually all you do is give yourself an easy excuse!

I didn't mean it like that. I know full well that you have to pace WODs or you die quickly. What I meant was more along the lines of should you pace it so that at the end you have given 100% and feel like death, or should you finish with some in the tank, knowing that you could have pushed harder? I appreciate this is very tricky to answer, but say just as a general rule for Crossfitters who maybe do metcons 3-4 times per week? What are your thoughts on this?

Sorry mate, didn't mean to patronise you Happy There are so many crossfitters who don't understand what I mentioned that I forget there are logical athletes left anywhere!

It's a difficult one to answer really and I guess it comes down to what you're doing the metcons for. If you want to lose fat/get a bit fitter then I reckon you can go 100% almost every time. They should be varied enough that it doesn't put you off next time...

If you're trying to get better at doing them over a long time scale then I think intervals at your weaknesses are probably best and these should be done regularly with slightly less intensity. This will probably help you to work out what pacing you can handle without crushing your soul too much!

TLDR version:
If you're trying to just get fitter then you can go flat out as long as you keep the variation high. If you're trying to get better at movements and metcons in general then slightly lower intensity intervals at your weaknesses are useful. IMHO

Cheers for taking the time to explain. It makes sense to me - general fitness - go hard and keep it varied. Serious improvements in certain movements / energy systems - a bit more thought / variation in exertion required. Thanks.

Is that one of the old open WODs? What did the top guys get if it is?

Popped in to see a new gym today. Ended up doing a full WL session under the very watchful eyes of Mehmed Fikretov. Excellent coach. Really gave me a lot to work on. Beyond this I can't see the gym being my new home.

Snatch
Up to 70 3
80 3
82.5 3,3

Clean triple touch and go/rest 10s/clean and triple jerk
Up to 90

Front squat

100 3

Snatch pull

clean pull
110 4,4

Muscle snatch

Some messing around jumping.

Considering I haven't lifted properly in 2 weeks I can't complain!

Well that nearly killed me! All the triples were done with a 3s hold in the catch abd at the top.

No time for back squats today so tomorrow instead

Kip pull ups
21, rest 1:30, 15, rest 1:00, 9
Had to break the 15 into 11 then 4. Real big weakness

2k row

Squat up to 100
120 4
140 4
145 4
130 4,4,4,4,4

20 min AMRAP
10 thrusters 30kg
10 burpees to an 8ft target

10 rounds, 10 thrusters, 1 burpee

Just paced it and did a full round every 2 minutes. It sucked so bad. Not super hard but 101 burpees before 9am sucks. Felt like I'd been repeatedly kicked in the stomach.
